A Response to the Capital Riot,2021
The fog collects in dew drops along the crease of the window sill.
The window is cracked open, just enough to let the cool autumn breeze dance in.
Outside in the streets, I hear the yelling horns and angry citizens barking slurs.
In a melodic sense, it pulls me into a trance.
My phone buzzes me out of the daze, and awakens my anxiety.
“Have you seen the news?” it screams in it’s blue vibrant bubble.
Reaching for the remote, heart pounding, pacing, panicking, I find it.
A sea of heads with red caps, American flags and parka jackets breach
The capitol. Police being beaten, battered and burdened by the
Anger of empty promises.
The video broadcasting shines brightly as the
SWAT gear sways to the current of the protesters.
Flags, fists and fury are thrown. Safety is lost in the anger.
“Murder the Media” is vibrantly displayed on doors.
Camera cords hung like nooses in trees.
A haunting image left a dangling dread around the crowd.
Shockwaves sent throughout the country.
Flowing in at a sunamic rate. As waves hit,
Nobody is safe. We all drown in the fear of freedom.
Power is privilege.
